A patient has previously suffered an injury to their right forearm and wrist and has been left with a nerve lesion as a consequence. On examination they have loss of abduction and opposition of the right thumb. Wrist and finger flexion are both intact but there is noticeable wasting of the thenar eminence. The patient can make a fist adequately. There is loss of sensation over the radial three and a half fingers.
